Outdoor Recess?

PRINCIPAL’S  Note on Recreation:
“Whether to Weather or Not!”  

As we move into the colder months and the weather turns chilly and raw, parents frequently ask “How do you determine whether the children will go outside for recreation or remain in?” 

Actually, we have developed a simple formula that has worked well throughout the years.  If its wet, rainy-misty-drizzle, we stay in.  If it’s dry, we look at the temperature and the wind chill factor.  If a combination of the two result in a wind-chill reading of 35 degrees or below, we stay in.  Example:  a thermometer reading of  40 degrees and a wind speed of 10 mph (gentle breeze-light flag extended) results in a wind-chill reading of 28 degrees – we stay in.  That same 40 degrees with calm results in us going out.
